The Rhuys Peninsula
Back in the day, the dukes of Brittany already appreciated this stretch of earth and sand that closes the Gulf of Morbihan.
In days gone by, the dukes of Brittany already appreciated this strech of earthTand sand that closes the Gulf of Morbihan.
The Rhuys Peninsula spreads out over 20km and offers beautiful beaches (Beg Lann in Sarzeau, Landrezac in Suscinio...) on the southern coast. The northern coastline is much more craggy with its oyster beds and striking landscapes.
You will discover Suscinio at the last moment, at a bend in the road between two pretty cottages. Its location is rather surprising as the castle is surrounded by marshland and woods yet has a view on the sea, more specifically over the bay of Landrezac. The castle was the favourite residence of the Dukes of Brittany and Anne of Brittany. Its outer wall is surrounded by a moat and flanked with six towers.
The marshes were restored around 10 years ago. On foot or bicycle, you can meander through the ponds and carnations and, depending on the season, observe the meticulous craft of the salt workers.
A true panoramic viewpoint, this mount offers a stunning view of the ocean. On a clear day you can make out a couple of islets: Belle-Ile-en-mer, Houat. The Petit Mont also has a cairn that was erected around 4500 A.D. To finish your visit you can take a stroll on the Port of Crouesty and enjoy its many shops and restaurants.
