Let’s set sail for the most wooded and largest island of the Gulf of Morbihan: l'île aux Moines. A ferry connects Port-Blanc (15km from Vannes) to the island yearlong.
L'île aux Moines is magnificent! The name comes from the monks (moines) of the abbey of Redon, to whom the king of Brittany gave the island in the 9th century.
In the off-season, you will enjoy wandering around the old town through alleys blooming with camellias, mimosas and lined with charming fishers’ houses. You can discover the island on foot or bicycle, the latter being ideal to roam through the Bois d’Amour and the “Perle du Golfe” hills covered with heather.
For those who enjoy lazing about in the sun, pretty clear-water beaches and typical 30’s beach cabins are waiting for you!
